The Great Gatsby in a world of Technology
In this alternative universe, far different from the roaring twenties of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s New York, a shimmering city filled with technology that is a thousand times more advanced than what we have in the present, can be found in the middle of the Nevada Desert. Gatsby, in this world, was a legend, a master of technology and illusions as in this universe the age of holograms and virtual reality is rising. This Gatsby 2.0 was just like the Gatsby of the old, Gatsby 2.0 had a huge appetite for success and a desire to rewrite his past. This Gatsby 2.0, instead of throwing huge parties in his mansions, he threw lavish VR(virtual reality) gatherings where celebrities, influencers, and politicians could attend from their places behind a screen. Their holographic avatars could be seen but they were hiding behind their avatars from their homes.
Across the city, Daisy Buchanan was Daisy Mitchell, an up-and-coming digital artist. Her creations captivated the city's elites, her works, were not paintings, but intricate 3D illusions that seemed to breathe with life. Jay West had once met her, not at a tea party, but at an exclusive art gallery filled with holographic masterpieces. Wolfsheim wasn’t involved in organized crime but rather was a renowned hacker, hacking the 2007 World Cup video game series. Nick Carraway in this world was a brilliant software engineer who lived across the street from Gatsby 2.0. As the story unfolds, Daisy Mitchell becomes the beacon of Gatsby 2.0's ambition. His relentless pursuit of her love and success mirrored the Gatsby of old, but instead of sending her letters, he sent her messages through the digital ether. Their encounters were not at extravagant parties, but in the virtual realm, where they explored surreal landscapes, danced among the stars, and shared dreams that only a world of technology could provide. After Daisy’s betrayal in this story Gatsby 2.0, heartbroken and desolate, sought solace in the city he had built, realizing that the relentless pursuit of his dream had cost him the one thing he truly cherished. In his search for perfection, he had lost the real world. As he stood on the balcony, staring at the neon green billboard across the city, Jay West understood that the dream, like the green light, had always been just out of reach. He was a modern-day Gatsby, still chasing his version of the American Dream, with technology and illusions as his tools, but ultimately unable to capture the intangible and elusive essence of happiness and true love.
In this alternate universe, Jay West's story was a reflection of the eternal human longing for something just beyond their grasp, a dream that can be attained only when one learns to let go and embrace the reality of the world they inhabit.
